The Swanson Firm, Ltd. was founded in 2009 by Erik G. Swanson. As a practicing attorney in the City of Chicago, Mr. Swanson saw first-hand that clients' long-term business and personal interests were often ignored and lightly considered in formulating legal and litigation strategy. Indeed, strategy itself was often lacking, with litigation often commenced and continued on emotional reactions, "one-size fits all" solutions and a dangerous combination of inertia and apathy.

The firm was founded on a core principle that legal problems aren't snuggies, one size does not fit all.

Mr. Swanson opened his firm to bring clients the service they deserve. He is dedicated to working with his clients, in the context of their business and personal goals, to obtain the best possible outcome, whether through litigation, mediation, or simple negotiation and compromise.

An experienced litigator, Mr. Swanson has handled thousands of state and federal cases in the Chicagoland Courts. On the Plaintiff's side, he has helped his clients recover millions of dollars. On the defense side, he has bested some of the largest firms in Chicago, successfully nipping frivolous lawsuits in the bud.

Originally trained in anthropology and archaeology, Mr. Swanson is a graduate of the University of Chicago, where he was active in student life and government, including service as Chief Justice of the Student Supreme Court. Mr. Swanson studied law at Washington and Lee University, one of this country's top law schools, where he served on the Race & Ethnic Ancestry Law Journal and had the further privilege of being selected to study European and International law in Estonia and Germany.

Before opening his own office, Mr. Swanson saw the law from many different angles: working as an academic legal researcher, an intern for the New York Supreme Court (Ulster County), and as a paralegal and attorney, handling both Plaintiff and Defense-side work. He brings this wealth of experience to serve his clients’ interests and needs in the most efficient and practical ways.

Mr. Swanson is active in both legal organizations and the community. He is an active member of the American Bar Association, Illinois Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, Northwest Suburban Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. He is also a member of the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce, Friends of the Morton Grove Library, and sits on the Executive Board for the Skomor S.C. youth soccer club.

Mr. Swanson is licensed in the State of Illinois and all Illinois and Wisconsin Federal Courts, as well as the Federal Court for the Northern District of Indiana.
